Filipina pride took center stage at the International Federation of Muaythai Associations World Senior Championships 2023 held in Bangkok, Thailand, as Islay Erika Bomogao won gold in the 45kg category. This victory marked a historic milestone, with Islay becoming the first-ever Filipina Muaythai World Champion.

From the northern city of Baguio, Philippines, Bomogao put up a stellar performance, outmatching her opponents and dominating the 45kg division. Her journey, filled with fierce determination and unyielding spirit, has led her to etch her name in the annals of Muaythai history, forever to be remembered as a trailblazer for Filipino athletes.

Bomogao’s triumphant return home was celebrated during the Monday Flag Raising Ceremony at the Baguio City Hall grounds. Mayor Benjamin Magalong, Vice Mayor Faustino Olowan, and members of the city council joined the ceremony to congratulate her and laud her significant achievement.

The recognition extended beyond the local government, echoing through the hearts of Filipinos nationwide. Bomogao’s feat has sparked renewed interest in Muaythai and inspired countless aspiring athletes in the country.
